Most students who want to become licensed practical nurses take the LPN entrance exam, or the NLN PAX-PN, to get into a nursing program. The NLN PAX-PN follows a standardized format, including math, science, and verbal questions. Most nursing schools require students to take and pass the entrance exam. The NLN PAX-RN is made up of three sections: a sixty-question verbal section, a forty-question mathematics section, and a sixty-question science section. For admission to the current semester, some schools allow students to retake the exam. Some programs, however, will require students to apply again, and to retest, in a subsequent semester. Nursing schools may also have other admission requirements. Many programs require transcripts or proof of high school graduation, in addition to the application form and fee.
